Achievements in sport
1903-1914-From the very beginning of release of motorcycles of Harley-Davidson they began to be popular at athletes. Till 1914 there was no factory team though many racers acted in the private order.
1916-Specially the powerful 8th(!) klapanny engine is developed for racing motorcycles.
1921-The factory racer of Harley-Davidson passed for the first time the race distance in the world on the route Fresno (California) with average speed over 100 miles at the o'clock and won it.
1921-The Harley-Davidson team established records in all races on earth tracks (“garevy tracks”) in which took part. In the twenties members of team began to take for the first time with themselves the pig as the talisman. The first mentions of the nickname of sports Harley belong to this time – "pigs".
1925-Joe Petrali established the first record for рулём special one-cylinder Harley-Davidson. As wrote the Enthusiast magazine of those times: “the first time the motorcycle passed hundred miles in race less than for hour. Petrali's time made 59 minutes and 47,5 seconds. Average speed of 100,36 miles at the o'clock”.
1935-Petrali won all 13 national competitions on earth tracks which were led that year, the unique time in the history of these competitions.
1937-The class "With" for factory teams is founded. Motorcycles were allowed to participation in him by engines of 45 cubic inches with nizheraspolozhenny valves and 30 kubovy with the top valves. Harley-Davidson was presented by the motorcycle with the 45th kubovy Flathead motor.
1946-The AMA National Championship (the American Motorcycle Association) is founded.
1947-The racer of the factory Harley-Davidson team Jimmy Chenn won the first national championship on WR motorcycle (all he won this racing series three times).
1952-There is the new model – 750 kubovy KR. Two years later Joe Leonard on this motorcycle wins the first of the three champion titles.
1958-In the year after Sportster’а debut, the special XLR version for participation in the prestigious race Tourist Trophy (TT) was prepared. Same year Carroll Resveber, the racer of the Harley-Davidson team won the first of four in a row champion titles.
1969-AMA changes technical requirements and allows models with engine displacement of 45 cubic inches. Harley-Davidson answers, starting on routes the next updating of Sportster'á – XR750. On racing routes this model achieved the greatest success in 1972.
1974-Walter Willa won the first of the three in a row titles of the World champion in the cm3 class 250 for рулём Harley-Davidson RR250.
1977-The factory Harley-Davidson team took part for the first time in krossovy competitions on MX-250 motorcycles.
1998-Scott Parker, the factory racer of Harley-Davidson, set up the record, having won the ninth (!) AMA national Championship.
2004-Andrew Hynes at the age of 21 year became the youngest champion of NHRA in the category Pro Stock having won the championship on drags-resingu in Screamin line-up’ Eagle/Vance & Hines Harley-Davidson on VRSC V-Rod motorcycle.
